U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Bob Bergland has been invited to address the group at the Thursday evening banquet. Dance music after the banquet will be provided by State Senator Florian Chmielewski and his band. Chuck Lilligren will M.C. the Field Demonstrations both Thursday afternoon and all day Friday, as well as the Thursday evening banquet. Chuck is a news commentator with W.C.C.O. Radio in Minneapolis. Trustees Met in Minnesota March 25th Your Officers and Board of Trustees met in their quarterly Trustees Meeting at the Radisson St. Paul Hotel, Friday, March 25th, with 100% of the elected representatives present! The following deliberations and actions were taken: Approved previous mintues. Reviewed current financial position. Reviewed the San Diego Conference and agreed it was an excellent one, although financially it far exceeded the cost projections. Agreed that instead of open bars, a limited number of drink tickets will be issued to each registrant with cash bar thereafter. Also agreed that wives should be charged for attendance at the Conference. Discussed the various responsibilities and programs of Business Promotion, Cultural and Production Practices, Key Man and Membership, the involvement of other segments of industry in the soil depletion discussion, and speakers for the Winter Conference in San Juan. Appointed a special committee of outgoing Directors to be the 1978 Winter Conference Committee, with LeGrande as chairman, Lain and Thornton. ASPA to hold Winter Conference in San Juan, February 26-28, 1978 ASPA’s annual Winter Conference will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the hotel El San Juan, according to President Norm LeGrande. Beginning with a Rum Swizzle party on Sunday evening, February 26th, the following two days will be filled with presentations and discussions which will be of practical value to sod producers. The program will include not only technical information but other subject matter including current problems, federal and state regulations, and practical management. Attendees are also assured of a reasonable amount of time to enjoy the beauty of the island, LeGrande emphasized. The hotel, with over 400 rooms, is located right on the sandy beach of the blue Atlantic and has full facilities including tennis courts, health club, casino, Las Vegas style musical show, and will be an attractive setting for ASPA’s annual winter warm-weather conference. Storage Facilities Available at Convention Persons who wish to bring their recreation vehicles to St. Paul and continue on for a Minnesota extended vacation will find storage facilities available within walking distance of the Radisson St. Paul Hotel. An area adjacent to the Mississippi river and within a few short blocks of the headquarters hotel has been reserved for ASPA attendees. The area will be guarded at all times and provides an excellent opportunity for those who plan to see beautiful Minnesota either before or after the ASPA Convention. It has no hook-ups, no electrical or water, and therefore is best for selfcontained units or parking. The dream lawn is yours in hours with sod AVAILABLE NOW!!! The third printing of the popular ASPA brochure “The Dream Lawn is Yours in Hours with Sod” has been made, and they are now available to members. Members who have ordered them have been extremely enthusiastic about the brochure. They are providing it to landscape contractors, landscape architects, for hand-outs at the retail level, in selling sod to the ultimate user, in making talks and presentations before civic and garden clubs, and in a general promotion way with every individual and organization which may have an interest in lawn development. Many members are imprinting the brochure in the space available on the back utilizing their own firm name and receiving double benefits therefrom. Members may order the brochure either in unbroken boxes, 2,000 pieces to the box at $.08 per piece ($160.00 per box) or by the piece at $.10 each, with a 500 piece minimum.
