Language and Literature, Historical and Social Studies, and the Arts (Music, Dance and Drama). The heads of these sections are respectively Dr. Gilbert Ansre, Mr. Richard Greenfield and Professor J . H. Nketia. The School of Music and Drama is administratively part of the Institute, but is under the directorship of Dr. E. Amu. The reorganization is meant to facilitate interdisciplinary contacts and collaboration on various projects by Fellows and to prevent watertight compart- mentalization. -5 i: INSTITUTE NEWS 116. INSTITUTE NEWS Conference 122. The Institute of African Studies in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics will hold a conference on The Study of Ghanaian Languages in ' Schools and Higher Institutions of Ghana at the University of Ghana, Legon, from May 5 - 8, 1968. Summer Courses 1968 The Institute of African Studies is planning a number of summer courses in co-operation with overseas Universities, Institutes and Forums this summer. A comprehensive introductory courses in African Studies for a forum group of mainly Afro-American students from the University and Colleges of Atlanta, will be run for one week in the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London and for five weeks at the Institute of African Studies, Legon, There will be a three week course "Introduction to African Music and Related Arts" for students from the University of California and the State University of New York. A group selected from many different Universities and Colleges in the United States will also spend a few days at the Institute and make similar stops at other Universities in Africa. Northwestern University expects to send eight Ph.D. students and one Professor for a programme of initiation into research techniques and interdisciplinary area study. There are places for interested Ghanaian students on all these courses and the British Council is co-operating with the Institute in presenting a two week course in drama for local school teachers.
