As space and time prevented the publication of a check-list for the remaining 193 items which have been provisionally catalogued, the following were chosen on the basis of subject or author. (i) Section A consists of works likely to be of direct concern to those interested in the history of Ghana and neighbouring . states. (H) Section B comprises works by or about the celebrated author al-Hajj cUmar b. AbfBakr of Kete Krakye who died in 1934 (Hi) Section C is composed of works concerning ol-Hajj Mahmud Karantaw who founded the 19th Century jiha'd state of Boromo/Wahabu in modern Upper Volta. Other manuscripts which would come under these heads have of course appeared in earlier check-lists published in the Research Review.
