The papers  by  Addo~Faaing  and Arhin  (pages  129  3id  152)  were,

originally,  contributions  to  a  Seminar  an  "The  Role  of  the  Presby-

terian  Church  in  the  Socio-economic  Development  of  Ghana",  organized

jointly  by  the  Institute  of  Africax  Studies  and the  Presbyterian

Ghurch  of  Qasaa.  aid  held  on  23rd  and  24th  of  February,  1979"  Plans

to  bring  out  all  the  papers  of  the  Seminar  in  one volume  did  not

materialize;  aid  we  offs-r  the  two papers  in.  this  issue  in  the  belief

that  they  s t i ll  have  points  of  interest  to  our  readers*

With  the,exception  of  the  paper  by  Sackey  (p%ge  [80)  the  rest

of  the  contributions  have  also  been  with  us  since  the  late  1970's,

and  are  being published  for  the  same  reason-
