During Covid, I felt like I had to be this superhero protecting my son, parents, and sister's family. After losing my job due to Covid layoffs, I had to choose whether to go out into the world to find employment, which would risk bringing Covid home to my son who has autism or my high-risk parents. I chose to ride it out with my son at home. In doing so, I started drawing more and making digital art to clear my mind. Making pieces like "Covid Feeling" helped me rediscover my passion for art, so I decided it was the right time to follow my passion and go back to school for art. Then, in October of 2022, I caught Covid and was out for two weeks. It finally got me, during my busiest semester too. Every day, I would crawl over to my computer, congested and tired. I felt like a drained mucus blob, much like "The Covid College Student." It took me twice as long to complete my coursework, and I had to reread things many times. On top of keeping up with schoolwork, I had to take care of my son. Mom still has to be mom even when she has Covid. --Label design by exhibit curator Nancy DeJoy.
