Stop the Spread, Flatten the Curve

As a studio artist, I asked myself ‘how can I help impact the cultural environment?' I proposed many pro-social ideas to our local arts council which were all rejected, so doing these posters was an empowering way to help out. My "Stop the Spread" and "Flatten the Curve" posters were created for a World Health Organization (WHO) project promoting protective practices during the pandemic. At first, it felt like we were all in this together, but after talking to friends around the globe I realized the United States wasn't doing all that it could to expand medical equity. I think that's changed a bit, and hopefully all our activism helped.

Como artista de estudio, me pregunté ‘¿cómo puedo ayudar a impactar el entorno cultural?' Propuse muchas ideas pro-sociales a nuestro consejo local de artes que fueron rechazadas, por lo que hacer estos carteles fue una forma empoderadora de ayudar. Mis carteles "Detenga la propagación" (Stop the Spread)  y "Aplana la curva" (Flatten the Curve) fueron creados para un proyecto de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) que promueve prácticas de protección durante la pandemia. Al principio, parecía que estábamos todos juntos en esto, pero después de hablar con amigos de todo el mundo, me di cuenta de que Estados Unidos no estaba haciendo todo lo posible para expandir la equidad médica. Creo que eso ha cambiado un poco, y espero que todo nuestro activismo haya ayudado.

En tant qu'artiste d'atelier, je me suis posé la question : « comment puis-je influencer l'environnement culturel ? » J'ai proposé plusieurs idées prosociales à notre conseil des arts local mais elles ont toutes été refusées. Faire ces affiches était alors ma façon à moi de donner un coup de main. C'était au nom d'un projet de l'OMS qui visait à promouvoir des pratiques protectrices que j'ai créé mes affiches « Arrêter la propagation » et « Aplatir la courbe. » Au début, j'avais l'impression que nous étions tous dans le même bateau, mais après en avoir discuté avec mes amis autour du monde, je me suis rendu compte que les Etats-Unis ne faisaient pas tout ce que le pays pouvait pour améliorer l'équité médicale dans le monde. Je pense que ça a un peu changé depuis, et j'espère que notre activisme a joué un rôle.

作为一个工作室的艺术家，我扪心自问"怎样才能影响文化环境？"我向当地的艺术委员会提出了许多亲社会的想法，但都被拒绝了。于是我制作了这些海报作为一种更好地帮助社会的方式。我的《阻止传播》和《拉平曲线》海报是为世界卫生组织（WHO）的一个项目创作的，目的是为了提倡在新冠疫情期间采取保护措施。起初，我觉得我们所处的情况都一样，但在与全球各地的朋友交谈后，我才意识到美国并没有尽其所能地增强医疗保障的公平性。我想这一点已经发生了一些变化，希望我们所有的行动都能起到作用。
