The act of washing one's hands is not only for the purpose of personal hygiene: on a symbolic level, it is associated with eliminating one's own guilt and, in some cases, passing that guilt onto a third party. During the pandemic, handwashing has become an especially important daily ritual. While most citizens comply with this health recommendation, some politicians around the world have not handled the pandemic responsibly and then ‘washed their hands' of the problem before their people. "Handwashing" is a piece that, through performance and oral testimony, depicts the personal vision of a Colombian citizen immersed in the doubts and contradictions that have arisen from information overload on the topic of the pandemic. In this piece, I wanted to expose my uncertainties and fears about the pandemic. Seeing myself surrounded by so much information from the media and conspiracy theories from social networks, I wanted to explore my feelings through a monologue about my doubts and concerns. --Label design by exhibit curator Nancy DeJoy.
