Near Alexandry Sept 2 62 Dear Childe acording to my agreement I will try and write you we left Detroit last Friday and arived hear last Eave this morning finds me quite well after a                                  n march from Washingto^ about 10 miles we are the advanse guarde they are a fiteing 16 miles from hear at Bulls run & we may have a chanse soon we cann not tell our [illegible in original] hold there one yet I can sea hundreds of tents from whare I [write?] it is all hurrey & commotion hear but I am rather favored from the fact that I carey the [illegible in original] I have my one very rather more than the other boys I will try and write more particular about our [rout?] hear some time But this mu must do for this time please excuse my pensil marks for I have not got                                  s any ink yet purhap^ this will be beter than nothing to you I write seting on the flore with paper on a [barle?] and Over Coat on for we got wet last night night and it is rather cool this morning we have an order to pack for march so good by Sept 3 Dear one this is a fine morning and I am well and the men feel in good spir- its I must close to write to others if you can a read this you must not let any bodey sea it from your Father A.M.
