Stember 22 1862           Dear Child               Your letter of the 15 [inst?] came safe to hand and I was glad to hear from you I wrote the 3 where we got to Fort Lyon and wondered why I got no reply I will try and give you a litel account of our jour ney we left Detroit on the May Quene had a fine sale for a few miles there the wind began to blow and it was rather rough and their was sick ones a plenty and I was one of the number for a while f but not long then I have a fine view of the waves I sat and watch them for a long while they ran about 15 fee t high any from botom to top we arived at Cleveland the next morning and [illegible in original] tuck the Cars and and past                                     ry threw sum very poor count^ to Pitsburge their we had a good super for [illegible in original] soldiers then we tuck the Cars for harrisburge it was dark and I culdnot sea [muthe?] but what I saw was rough we went threw two or three tunnils after bay light it was the rufest country that I ever saw we did not finley go to [H.?] we turnd off and went to Baltimore their it rained a litel but not harde we had super [tharir?] about the same as at P sum say       it was the best [illegible in original]       their we went to Wash ington and I got a poor breckfast that is our CO the others I know nothing about we martch from W to Fort Lyon it was a [warm?] day it began to rane just as we got their we got wet but finley got into a house the most of us but [illegible scratched out] we stud it well their was a few complaining the next morning but not bad we stayed their two days and then martch to camp Wayne about 3 miles farther into Vurgina we had just got at work pitching our tents and their was a call for us to form into a line it was to try us         to see how quick we could form and the next mor nig we was cald out agane I think the Col was [abit?] [be? he?] alarmed for thair was sum rockets went up [illegible in original] of us but the enamy but did not apear and we returned to camp in safty we stay ed thair four days and started at 8 P M and untill [2 letters illegible in original] 2 A M when we halted and lay down until mor ning then martch to W whare we got our breck fist and had a chanse to look a round alitel except the goverment grounds I did not sea look on the last page we have soft water I think is the cause a [mast?] a [illegible mark in original] all of our men have had it sum and are [illegible in original]                                         e down [two?] are to go hom^ we have a plenty to eat and more than we can eat the goverment owes s us a about one hundred dollars that we have not [illegible in original] we have Beef Pork Beans Rise Bread hard and soft Coffee sugar and sum potatoes and we can get amost anything we want with the money but to [is?] very dear /I must must close please write soon from your Father Alice M Peck A G Peck [illegible in original] [tho?] I have seen         before then we martch to our presant camp we have rather of a prety ground and have got it fixt up rather nice our camp a is [regerly?] ladeout and our streets are strait and we have got them [graded?] and got Pine [Kegs?] set out on both sides each CO has a street our tents on each side thair is sum talk of our stay ing hear sum time and that we are to build a Fort but I suppose you know as mutch as we do a bout it I am not very ver well for a few days I have a [diareah?] I have [dun?] my duty except one day I am beter than I was       P.S please direct as        be fore               Peck
