19th 63         Camp Isabella Vir April,         My Dear Childe             I wrote Joseph a few Days a go saying that we ware to march verey soon but that order was countermanded and we are hear yet but that is all I can tel a bout it we had a very heavey rain the day we [were?] to starte the roads are verey bad but whether that was the cause of our stay I cannot tel but we are in favour of staying a litel longer for we are in hopes of geting our pay we muster again the last of this month                                           s then thare will be six month^ Pay due           I have not hurde from you in a long time but I thought you would like to know whether we martch or not       I was down to the Potomac yes tur day & found sum large [illegible in original] sum say they are [Sharkes?] [illegible in original] I will send two or three to you I will send a [pebel?] or to they are of [illegible in original] nor verey [illegible in original] but those comming from the Potomac is all the [illegible in original] I finde [illegible in original] to [luck?] that I have lost the preteyest [Pebel?] I had an I fear I cannot send them this time if I send the [illegible in original]       I [have?] cum pretey near having the ague for two or three days but I think that is gone now       I must close to write to your uncle [illegible in original] I hope to hear from you soon let me know about                           her herr [Elba?] when you hear from ^   [mark illegible in original] I had almost fogot to write       a bout the weather it is quite warm but know warmer than we have in [Mich?] the Peach Treas have bin in blossum a few days to day they look fine       I hope your Grand father is well before this time please give my Love to all from your Father with strong regards [Miss?] Alice. Peck     April 20th         We received orders last [neight?] to be readey to march at [7? 9?] this morning at that hour our mules knapsakcs [2 words illegible in original] evrey thing pack and on the moove but it was a shorte one we started out a shorte distance [halted?] [remainder of line illegible in original] ^ soone the troops began to cum back & we soon at [illegbible in original] what it ment [is?] more thare I can tel erey thing [look?] just like a march except [one?] thing the Artillery started one way & we the other & they had of onley half of thare [extrey?] ammunition & whilst we ware gone they began to throw up brest works near our town not more than 40 rods off but what it mea ns is to mutch for me to guess                         A.G.
