Camp Kellogg Nov 1st 1862 Dear Mother it is with pleasure I the take my my pen to inform you of the recption of your kind letter of yesterdays date which came to hand this evening it found me well I am happy to state but sorry to hear of your failing health. as for myself I am well and enjoying myself firstrate and like soldier- ing very well have not recd any letters than those of which I spoke in my last letter. save this one from you. Mr P. Forbes has got a fourlough and started for home this morning I gave him a bundle of clothes to tell take home to you if you can get those “housewives” done it will be well to send them by him if you can it would greatly oblige me there is some doubt about my being mustered if I am not I will be home soon. most of our men have gone home to [g?] vote we had about twelve men on drill this rest forenoon there are about 28 men here now I cannot write any more at present I will finish it tomorrow Sunday. I have been to Church at the M E Church in the “city” we had a class meeting before preaching which I enjoyed very much Afternoon we have just got our over coats it is a pretty time to get clothing is it not there is not much sunday there a great deal of wickedness in camp I was on guard last Sunday and expect to go on again tommorrow or next day it is raining today very cold I have Elder Somerville is here and is our Postmaster his family are here in the city I have no more time to write any more at present so hoping to hear from you soon accept this from your dear son Augustus Holmes
