Camp at Harpers Ferry
		July 18th 1863

			Dear Mother
yours of June [11th?] is recieved 
at least it has been 2 weeks
on the [road?] your found
me in pretty good health
but I am not exactly
well have had the Diareah
Dysentery some [illegible in original] but am
[several words illegible in original] all the time have
not been in any fights
since we left “[illegible in original]” except
a little skirmish at Falling
water on the Potomac. I
supose we are lucky in not
being with the Rebels Reg
for it has been 3 fights

since we left it in the Winter
the Rebels were in their place
last week but our forces
shelled the town and drove
them out and we were
ordered over here the day before
yesterday I and my partner
have got a tent by our selves
and have made a bunk
to sleep on but I do not
think it will do no much
good for we seldom [stop?]
more than 2 days in one
place
		Well who do you
think I have seen it is
a no less personage than
A.H. Marsh. I heard
that the 7th was near

hear and went and asked
the Capt for a pass but could
not get one so I saddled my
horse and went without it
found him well he is
teamster he rides one mule
and drives 5 others we had
a good talk and he sadled
up his mle and went a part of the way back
with me. I also saw
Ed Bradley and Frank

that they are well saw
Alveh again last night
       wer on the
they ^ way to Falmouth he said
had a letter from Ed
the other day he was well
have not heard from Frank
in over a month

I think there is a good prospe ^
four going home now Vicksburg
and Port Hudson have fallen and
the report is that Charleston also
has falen Rozencranss has
whapped Bragg Gen Meade
has Whipped Lee he has
got across the river after all
I think the Rebelion is about
played out I shall be home to
dig your potatoes for in the
fall I recieved yours that 
testament all safe and sound
was glad to get have not had
one since the fight but what
I borrowed was glad to have the
money guess you had better
send in another dollar [illegible in original]
