Camp Kellogg Nov 5th 1862 Dear Mother it it is with pleasure I take my pen in hand to inform you that I have got your “housewife” which Mr Forbes Forbes brought I am well and full first rate I am on guard today it Storm was very ^ [illegible in original] in the forenoon but it is very nice and clear now I go on about nine oclock Mr Potter came with the boys. but I had nearly forgot about the housewife I think it is a very nice one I thank you very much for it and will think of you every time I take it into my hand I expect to be home pretty soon if I sell my bounty I will be home right off I can get $23. 00 for $25.00 when I go [am?] mustered in to the service I recieved a letter from you Saturday which I answered Sunday the horses are coming in very fast we have got about 200 now and [there?] [abou?] are coming in every day some of them are pretty good some are [illegible in original] yer very poor we had considerable fun to day or this evening rather a man who be longed to the 7th Reg got drunk and talked rather saucy to the captain they put him in the guard house where he raved and [tore?] and cursed and swore till finally half a dozen dozen bayonets took him to the jail it was fun to see them they didenot want to touch him for fear he would knock them there is a fellow from the 8 [illegible in original] reg who is a drummer and a splendid drummer to I shall ask him if he know Frank this is all I can write at present good bye from your Dear son Augustus B Holmes Mrs H Holmes Fentonville Michigan
