Harpers Ferry Va February 29th 1864 Dear Mother I take the present opportunity tof write you a few lines but have not time time to write much Corporal Cranston has gone home and he will call and tell you when he is to go return if you can get some few things fixed up for me I would be very glad Mr Whalens folks are going to get up a box to send to [illegible in original] and you can send it in it a some butter woud come very acceptable it will not be necessary to put it up in tins cans I think it will come all right if it is rolled u p in acloth [dampened?] if you could send 5 or 6 pounds I woud beglad a bottle of your “catsup” would come very acceptable and any thing else you may think of will come acceptab le if you requiremoney to by butter I think you can get it of Edwin if he is at home or if not I will repay you if you get it with your money I would send you some now but have lent it to Sergt Norton I am well at present no more now your affectionate son Augustus [B?] Holmes A H Holmes
