August 22nd /6[4?] Dear Mother I at this mom ent recd your letter of the [18th?] and from it I infer that you have not recd my letter of the [6th?] of July [illegible in original] as if you did you delay- ed answering it a good while there are a good many of my correspondents who are rather anxious slack about answering my letters lately Frank among the No I have not heard from him at all since I last wrote on the 8th July. [I do?] not see why he does not [write?] answer letters I am always prompt and I [illegible in original] like others to be the same I recd a letter from Fred a few days since he was well when he wrote I do not know why he does not write to you he is not very fond of writing letters anyhow I wrote those to him before I got one in return As I said in my last letter I shall get home if I can but I shall not [last?] long in Fentonville [as?] I have promised to go to Liberty & Jackson The weather for the past week has been quite wet it has rained every day my leg is improving slowly yet but I am not allowed to go on crutches yet I hope to soon though it is dressed with [lint?] and bandages now and I can get about the room some I do not think I shall ever go to the Regt again as my wound will unfit me for service in the field again hoping to hear from you soon I renane your affectionate son Augustus B Holmes Mrs H J Holmes Fentonville Mich
