St Mary’s U.S. Hospital Detroit Mich Sept 9 /[64?] Mrs. A.H. Holmes I take the liberty of addressing yoo. thinking that perhaps a line from me,, an old chum of Franks,,, would be acceptable. at least under circumstances. I saw Colonel Ely of the 8th on the [7?] he is Home on Furlough. he says Frank is well at least for him. he is better that he has been for a long time. I asked him when he would Detroit go back. he said he would pass through the place ^ on the 20th of this month. I asked him if he would take a small bundle through to the Reg to Frank he said he would. I thought you wanted to send any thing to him you might send it in to me and I will [guive?] it to the Colnel to take to him,,, I received a letter from Frank the 1st of this month he was in the Corpse Hospital doing well I sent him a little money he said he had not been paid yet. and I send him a paper often. [guive?] my best respects to all who may be my friends also to my Father is you see him. if there is any way I can serve you call on me and you will find me there yours Respectfully W.H. Shaw
