Hospital Detroit March 9” 1865 Dear Mother I take this oppor- tunity to inform you that Frank’s deasease has been found to be the [“Varie-o-Soid”?] and he has been sent to the “smallpox” Hospital he is not considered dangerous for you know that the deasease is not as bad as the smallpox there has been several cases of the small pox here and I have been exposed several times but I do not think I will have it but I may. Mr Severance was here yesterday he was on the Ypsilanti to bring Ellen home and stoped here as he passed through William Shaw has been unwell but is better now DeWitt Spalding is well also Mr Knapp. the Surgeon in Charge told me that he would take the dead bone out but for some reason or other did not do it I wish it could be done but I am afraid I will not be able to have it taken out with out great difficulty I will close for the present as I am in a hurry for I am going to school from your Son B Holmes Mrs H J.
