Thursday Falmouth Apr 28 1863 Dear Mother I take my pen in hand to inform you of my health it is good and I hope you are the same I got a letter from Frank last night he is well at the date he wrote but I will send his letters so you can see how he writes I will tell you what I am doing I am driving team team for the regiment one day I draw wood the next day I go to the depot so you see I have Plenty to do I can play some of the time but I am satisfied if I only can stay on extra duty so the rebs cant hit me Mother I got my pay and sined the check for I have been so long without pay that I got in debt but I will send you some I will you five this pay day and if you get it you can have more I want you use it for your own use I will tell you how I feel in regard to my Spiritual welfare I am in the worst place for the people of god that you ever could think of for the first fathers ther are are so many to toss a man around as for me I fell as if I should live the life of a true Christian for to be prepared to meet my god but if I live to return home I will reform my life and try to live the life of a true christian I ask your prayers to keep me from the many sins of the camp life I but I cant think of anything to more to write at present but I hope you will write to me soon this from your son Alwah H Marsh of Co E 7th Mich [upside down] If you see any of my friends tell them I am all right
