Fairfax Seminary Hospital Dec 18th 1863 Dear Mother I take my pen in hand to inform you of the present state of my health it is good at present perhaps you have got the letter that I wrote you from here telling you of the slight wound I got on the 25 of last month it is doing fine at this time so that the doctor says that I can get a furlough for thirty days so if I can get some pay I shall come home to stay some time with you I could come home withou any money but I don’t want to for I want to get you some things for your comfort if I could get the 4 months pay that is due to me It would help you some I got a letter from you this morning from the regt dated the 29th of last month and one from Mary I was glad to hear from you so I thought I would tell you that you need not send those shirts for I have got plenty now I have got 4 or five so you see I don’t need them at present tho most of my Company have enlisted again but they don’t get me I tell you for I aught to be at home to take care of you need not fear for that I am as anxious to get home as you are to have me I can tell you that [illegible] as ther is so much [illegible] on I cant write very well with this poor pen so I will send you some That I wrote the other day as paper is cheap it will save me writing some thing over again perhaps you will think it a strange letters from me but I am to lazy to write anymore at present this from your son A H Marsh Direct to Fairfax Seminary Hospital Ward (G?)
