15th 62 Fair Oak June Dear Parents I once more take my pen in hand to inform you of my health. I am well at present and hope you are the same I am cooking for eight men I have good time if the enemy does come out they will get whipped we are [7?] miles from Richmond yet I do not think they will make any advance on the lines of our pickets there are in our regt about [200?] men able to do duty the rest being sick in the fight we lost 25 men in all killed wounded and missing if do not think of any thing to write if you do you must Write to me if the Boys catch the rebels here I Shall soon be at home I have not heard from you in some time how is Father is he any better or not I wish you to write often to me I am lonesome Mother I can not write to you much for I am tired and cant think of anything at present good Bye From Alvah
