Fairfax Seminary Hospital Feb 24th 1864 Dear Mother, Brother, and Sister I take my pen to inform you of my health and to answer your kind note of the 13th of the present month as far my foot is about the same as when I left home I am not to as to walk on my heal at any time since I left home the Doctor thinks that my ancle will always be stiff yet I guess not I expect they will keep me here for some time yet I don’t mind staying away from the rebs for they might hit me again as for my enlisting you need not fear for I don’t think enough of being a soldier For to enlist again I think that I aught to stay at home and take care of those thare that depend on their sons and brothers for the nesesaries of life I have not had any desire to enlist again Mother as soon as I get some pay I shall send it to you but as my descriptive list is not here I cant get any until I have been mustered again then I can get 2 months pay from the Hospital Pay Masters then I will send home twenty-dollars for the money that I got at home Frank I think you must have hard times if you take care of all of the Girls at home I had a hard time before you came home yet I don’t think that you have quite as many as I did for Mary was one of the worst to fight I had to get along With I wrote some since I came home or I call it home I have not got any from but two the next time I write to all of the town I will get some reply from some of them I think Frank you must take good care of Alice for me will you as for the rest I don’t care for they are big enough to take care of themselves sister I am glad that the man you spoken of has forsaken your company for good reason that I have of my own now taken up with good company for the sake of your own reputation I suppose you will think that you know more of Green than I do perhaps you do and perhaps I know some things that you don’t so take my advice for once perhaps you say that you choose as good Company as your Brothers but that may be I know that I have not always done right and am sorry for it I tell you for your own good talk to no one of a poor name in society or else where for me tell Mr Terry and wife that I send my best respects to them and love to all of the folks in your acqantince Frank if you can get me a few stamps I wish you to send me one as tow at least for I cant get any here from the Po write soon Mother write as soon as you can this from your son and from Brother to Brother And sister give my love to all enquiring friends so good day yours truly A H Marsh
