I thought I would write you a few lines in regard to my circum stanes and also with refference to coming home. The force of circum- us stances compels me to be very industrio^ and to use the best economy and also of the best judgment the exercise is essential in order to accomplish what I have undertaken Mr Baker and I have already payed out upwards of five hundred dollars in gold towards stocking the farm besides we are expecting this fall a span of brood mares harness and a new lumber wagon this fall from South west Mich which will cost us between 3 & 4 hundred dollars We purchased a ordinary brood mare last spring 9 years old for 100 dollars. in order to make it pay we need not less than one thousand dollars in living stock We design to buy some [yang?] stock this fall I think I will be able to sow put in 20 acres to wheat – I want to sow as much ^ Rye as I passibly can A part of which I design for stock to feed on in the winter and spring Rye does fine here or as the Missourians say "it grows way up yonder" I have grass seed, to sow five acres this fall. It cost at the rate of over 4 dollars per bushel I sau a peck to the acre, on ground well prepared expressly for it. I had Timothy heads that measured a foot – last year I had Timothy that grew 5 feet 7 inches high. Our editor, Mr. [Groves?] had some Timothy presented to him, which measured over 6 feet We have a fine yoke of oxen It is said they are the largest and best in this section of country They girt nearly eight feet – I would like to come home this fall but I fear circumstances will not permit = I would fill out these two pages but must improve this moment in to sending this letter ^ the Po, I would be glad to hear from you all often A.
