Nashville, Tenn Aug 16th 1863 Dear Mother, & all I recd your short letter yesterday & was glad to hear that you are all well we are well as far as I know the Boys from Wright & Ransom I think are all well it is a little Cloudy this Morning but I don’t think it will Rain to day James is just going out on Patrol 6 O clock he goes out & stays till 8 I am Detailed to day for Guard but I gues it is Breakfast time, I hear the Milk Bell ring I have been to Breakfast. I bought a pint of Milk for 5 cents, in Louisville Milk is only 5 cts per qt I found things is a great deal Cheaper there than here Potatoes 70 cts per Bushel Apples 40 cts. peaches from 75 cts to $1.00 pre Bushel Potatoes are worth here $2.00 per bushel Apples & Tomatoes the same Peaches 75 cts a Peck, which would be $3.50 per bushel. Corn Green, 20 cts per doz ears. I have seen them ask a dime for a single Pear, large Onions 5 cts a piece Eggs 25 to 35 cts per doz other things in proportion the weather is very warm, we had a little Shower yesterday, the Paper Stated this Morning, that the Shower came just in time to save Mercury jumping out at the top of the Thermometer at any rate we find it some warm Patroling the City, but we all stand the Heat first rate, much better than I expected to. Our Colonel, & 3 or 4 men have gone Home, after some Drafted Men, so I expect we will have some new Recruits shortly have they Drafted there yet but I must close hoping this may find you all in the enjoyment of Good Health & hoping to see you some day or other Good bye write soon Albert W.
