A. Ferguson is a Confederate soldier writing to his family to warn them about General William Tecumseh Sherman's march, because he is unsure of how the soldiers will treat the local women. He discusses how Confederate soldiers are deserting the army by taking leaves and simply not returning. Ferguson concludes by stating he longs for home-cooked eggs.
