	              Dear Sis & Bro.
Yours of [illegible in original] 15th & of [illegible in original] 26th are
[upon?] me __ matters aim things are
moving along about as usual  __
We are kept pretty close, yet I generaly
manage to go where I have a mind
to __ no thanks to some of the
company officers however __ Glad 
that [illegible in original] has to vacate a place that
he should not have held 1/2 as long
as he has held it -- Every body knows
him to be a thief and a liar __ Besides
a backbiter and [villifyer?] of his friends __



I hear it rumored he is to have a
place in Washington __ I think
that should not be permitted we
want to root out all traitors that
now have a hand in the crib [illegible in original] as
well as all those whose doubtful
character for integrity might
induce us to have a suspicion that
he could be tampered with by the
enemy __ Of his class I believe [illegible in original]
to be. I think that for a sufficient sum
of money or the offer of place and power
he would not hesitate to betray the best
interests of friend or country __ [illegible in original]
[illegible in original] all the elements of character that
you attribute to Gooderich I know
to be in Winters composition.
     Good joke about that dinner party
at Gooderich's __ At the time of writing
that article for the Republican I have not
spoken a word to Gooderich __

me in regard to the Lansing
Company __ Had it not been for
A.C. Winter, John Akiers and
others of like ilk I should not have
been under the necessity of leaving
Lansing as a Private __ But as
they seemed to think that I was
moved by none other than selfish
motives, I thought I would let
 		      might be
them know that there was a little
patriotism outside a blue uniform
The boys have learned to know
me and at present I could
be elected to any position in the
company, promotions here goes by
personal favor with company and
regimental officers, but little respect
			              officer
being paid to the fitness of the company
or the desire of the company __
As for me, I am entirely to free
spoken and pay to little regard to
cowards and [paltroons?] to be popular
   with the appointing powers

at present a man who can
neither read nor write, ranks me
only ten grades; being promoted a few
days since.
	I guess if your [Nell?]
would have been at Bull's Run
it would have [given?] out - I saw
men go right to the bottom of a
well to get water where we could 
not get it up by the usual means
I think Lansing is much more
the gainer by the Advent of the
new recruits [illegible in original] the regiment
will be who received men, some
of men at least
		Some of the
company were [illegible in original]
[illegible in original] that they were not all
made heroes by my last letter.
Many of them had written
sensation letters to their friends as to
their exploits on the field, when in fact
they had run away and knew
nothing of the enemy and they
disliked having their names in the
papers __ Let me hear from you
