the Fulton Nov 14 18, 61 Dear Brother It is with pleasu re that I now sit down to answer your welcom letter that was received over a week ago. I was verry sorry to hear of your ill health but I hope you will be better ere you get this. The folks are not verry well they all have got bad colds. Mother is verry poorly she has gone up to Jim Martins to day a visiting. Have you heard from Jim D lately if so write. We have not heard from him ^ since you sent that letter. Octavia has come back & is a going to teach school. She is a going to live with us & I wish that you was here Henry has enlisted in the horse cavalry he is at Grand Rapids. I have got to write to him today. I dont know but I have written to you about Henrys going before. James Carpenter has enlisted in the [illegible] company at Detroit & [Car?] Webster & Mr Hendson & Mr [illegible] & e Mr Mat Whitacre & James Martin put his nam^ down but they would not [leve?] him. d Do you hear from Charles we have not hear^ from in a great while. & do you hear from Sam we dont William Hanes was thrown from broke a horse & ^ his hand But it is a getting better One letter that you sent to me Aunt Julia got it & opened it & read it She wanted to know what it ment about Delos she knows I shant tell her. They wanted to know who wrote such stuff. I forgot to tell you that Tip Martin has gone to [ver?] he is in the same regiment with Henry. There is not much news to write but I will do the best I can. There is an evening party over to Mr Smiths tomorow night the young folks are a going. Octavia says she wrote to you when she was out [horse?] [illegible] you receive them she would write to you if she was her but she has gone in to her Burches to day. I will have to stop a writing now for it is supertime. Mother has got home & she says She will write to you. I have not much news to write for I have written it all. I hope peace will soon be restored & you will be permitted to return home Edward you dont know how many sleepless nights this war has caused me but I hope it will soon be over, hav you ever been in any battels. how you prepard for winter do you go ragged & dirty or is your clothes whole, what kind of wether are you having out there this Fall.. we are having the [wirst?] kind of weth weather we havent had any cold weather yet do you know any thing about James we hear he has [gon?] to South Carolina but we dont know for surtin Edward I want you should be sure & take good care of youre health as you can I am afraid you will come home with broken health if you live to git home.
