Knoxville Ky Oct. 17th /63 Dear brother. thinking you Could like to hear of my whereabouts I Will Send you a few lines My health is good & hope These few lines may find you all in good health Last Sept we were taken from the Brigade & Sent to Frankfirt We Stayed There just ten days & then Took the cars for Louisville & [reshiped?] for this place on the Nashville & Louisville R.R. after haveing been here five days we Received orders to be ready to move at a Minutes notice with three days rations. The order has not come yet so We are Still here it a real rebel Hole & is Situated on the Memp his branch rail road 30 miles from bowling greene & am in hopes they will Let us remain here the rest of our time We have draw Rations for 198 men present. & absent, we have 350 men, officers & all & not 50 of them all can Stand a march of 15 miles [illegible] men Edd just go To [work?] & get up a company of artillery of 150 men choose me For cap get the canon from the [illegible] of Mich & I Will have the best cav in the State in less then 3 months how is James I have not had a line from him Since I Saw him at the Bluffs of the Yazzo river last Summer. think he would Write if he had a mind To. How is Dianthas health this Fall & Mother I have Thought of geting a furlough Sometime this Fall & get as far as Michigan as it is geting a little Late I Must close by Sending love to all & a Sheare for yourself.
