March 9th /64 Dear brother I recieved your letter yesterday was glad to hear [crossed out] [that you and your f] from you. We are well at present excepting I have a very bad cold. Joseph I think in regard to the offer that you made me it is a very good one yet I cannot afford to come for that price even. Comuting the cost of moveing out there and that of Anns board per month say nothing about the expense of clothing have ourselves you see I would ^ but the little left at ^ end of the month Here I think I least can make at ^ 20 dollars per month clear of all expense I have my wood matters so arranged that it will not cost me anything but the expense of hauling: that will be but little I am now getting 13 shillings per day and the prspect is that wages will be at least 3 dollars so you see I can hardly afford to come and you pehaps can do better than to pay that price nothing more of importance give our respects to all write soon yours truly C Hayes Joseph S Bamber [penciled in] [1864] Highland Oakland co Mich
