Carlos describes his feelings about a Copperhead meeting he recently attended. He disparaged it as full of uninformed "rowdys" who spread lies about Abraham Lincoln and he mentions that the primary speaker was "Mr. Clark of Brighton Livingston Co." Joseph's sister, Hattie, notes that she (and others?) traveled safe, she likes Saginaw, and she visited with friends. A month later, Annie asks the Bambers who has been drafted and who has enlisted in their town. Annie goes on to praise Hattie for helping her with her work and closes by explaining her worries over their father's health.
