Miles Predmore is writing to his brother, Benjamin Franklin Predmore, who is married to Sarah Bamber's sister, Mary Elizabeth. Miles describes his duties as a soldier in the 1st Michigan Light Artillery at Fort Creighton, Tennessee. Miles asks his brother for money to buy food, since he has been sick and their rations are inadequate. He closes by detailing the process of buying bread from local bakers.
