I landed at New OrleanS at [9?] & loaded
my gun & marched down the river to the
united States mint where I took quarters
& ate at 12 I had hbread & coffee & then I got letter
from P.H one from A O & one from M. [illegible]
& ate Supper at 5 I had coffee hbread &
went on guard at 9 to come off at 12 & went
to bed  Clear & beautiful

May 3th Saturday Clear & beautiful
I got up at 5 & ate I had coffee & hard bread
then I Cleaned my gun accoutrements
& washed my Shirt & ate my dinner
at 12 I had coffee & hard bread

run up the river about 40 miles &

we land at 3 & took my oil cloth &
blanket gun & accutrement & started
for the rail road through the
Swamp distance 7 miles & I got

help to tear up railroad & ate

     May 11th Sunday Clear I got up at
6 & ate my breakfast I had beef coffee &
hbread & washed my Shirt & haversack
& pants & ate my dinner I had coffee peas &
hard bread then I went up the river about 8
miles to help to arrest some rebel officers
& got 9 & returned to the other boat where we
tied up & ate Supper I had beef coffee pudding
& hard bread & went to at 9 Clear

      May 12th monday Clear I got up at 6
& ate I had fresh beef chicken & Soft bread
then I Started for Baton Rouge distance 100
miles at 6½ & went on guard at 12 & off
at 2 & went to bed at 9 Clear
   we Stopped one to wood up the
vessel run all night

     May 13th Tuesday Clear I got
up at 5 & went post at 6 & come off at 8
& reached Baton Rouge at 11 & tied up & 
went on Shore & marched through the 
City to the united States ArSnal
where we Stacked arms & examined
the ArSnal then we returned to river
& ate I had pork mush peaS coffe &
hard bread then I went on board the boat
& went to bed at 8 Clear

    May 14th Wednesday Clear I got up
at 6 & Started for Natchez distance 131 miles &
run about 20 miles & Stopped [wood?] & ate I
had pancakes & water & laid down at 8 Cle

had pancakes & water & reached Natchez at 1
& tied up on the opposite Side of the river &
went on Shore & Stacked arms & I went to [cooking?]

     May 16th Friday Clear I got up at
5 & ate I had fresh beef & biscuit of my own
cooking this constituted my eatables for
the day & Started for Vicksburg distance 130
miles at 4 & tied up at 8 v  & went to bed

     May 17 Saturday clear I got [6?] & ate
I had beef coffee & hard bread & Started up
the river & traveled all day rained a little
we had a collision at about 9 between
the ceres & the gun boat [no 3?] which resulted
in killing one man & tearing the
wheelhouse of the ceres to pieces then
I went to bed Clear then we tied up at

     May 18th Sunday Clear I got up
at 5 & ate I had pea Soup & hbread & we Started
about 4 miles & Stopped & hurried
2 of the boys then we run up [withing?]
about 4 miles of Vicksburg where
we tied up at 4 for the night I went
