In line of battle near Dallas Georgia May 29th, 1864 Dear Mother This is the first chance in a week that we have had to send any letters so I though I would drop you a few lines we have been laying here in line for the last three days and nights the rebels are about three an a half a mile in our front last night there was some heavy fighting on our right I do not know what the results were. There was a man out of Co G killed yesterday on the skirmish line. Enclosed you will find my discharge paper it may be of some use to you in getting my bounty. I intended to have left it with you the night I passed through there but I forgot it. There has been three days and nights that I have not had my cartridge box or boots off as we have to be ready to fall in at a minutes notice The skirmishers are firing all the time once in a while there is a man hurt our company has not been on the skirmish line yet I have not received a letter from you since we was near Dalton. I have not time to write any more as the mail goes out in about ten minuts so good bye From your affect son William Bostock. Give my love to Father and Georgy W.B.
