William describes a skirmish in which two brigades from his company charged a Confederate stronghold but were eventually repelled by Confederate soldiers throwing rocks over their fortification. William's brigade was supporting the maneuver and suffered few casualties, while the two brigades leading the charge suffered heavy losses.
