Camp 10th Mich. Infty in the front June 28th, 1864 Dear Mother We was releived at Kenesaw Mountain last Saturday night while on the skirmish line by the 16th Corps and moved to the right about five miles to this place the 2nd and 3rd Brigades of our Division made a charge here yesterday They succeded in taking the Rebels first line of rifle pits and got as far as their line of breast works but could get no father the Rebs throwed stones over the breast works at our men they were so close some of our men even went over their breast works but they never came back Col Dan McCook comanded the 3rd Brigade he was badly wounded we have heard since that he is dead but I do not know whether it is so or not, our men fell back about fourty paces and threw up fortifications some of our dead lay right up close to their breast works and they wont let us take them off. We have not heard what our loss is yet but I expect it is not less than six hundred in the two Brigades. Our Brigade suported the charge consquently we did not lose many men Capt Cook of Co E was wounded also a man in Co. O. I received the shirts you sent me and am very much obliged to you they are very good ones and are a great deal cooler than the heavy woolen Army shirts that we draw from the Government The weather is dreadful hot I received a letter from you at the same time I did the shirts but I do not know now what date it was as I destroyed it. Why dont Georgy write to me and let me know where he is I have not had another letter from Len Morton yet if you see him tell him to write often Give my love to Father and believe me your affectionate son William Bostock Direct to Chattanooga
