Jonesbouroug Ga, Sept 3rd 9 oc1ock in the evening Dear Mother I take this oportunity to write you a few lines to let you know that I am all right yet we have just passed through the ordeal of battle again our Corps made a charge on the first day of this month our Brigade lost very heavly our Regt lost 78 killed and wounded. The Major was killed and Adjutant badly wounded. Capt. Nims and 2nd Leiut. John Knox of our Co. was both killed. Private Chas H Thornton from Albion; A Gibson; T Russell was killed in our Co: Corpl- C Howell: James Canahan: D Clany: J Musie H Litehenburg was wounded also F. Curtice slightly but did not leave the ranks. I got through without a scratch. You will probally see an account of the charge in the papers our Brigade took ten pieces of Artillery and twice our number of Prisoners. I am writing this by fire light as it is the only chance we have had of sending letters in some time. Our forces have Atlanta sure this time we have gained most a splendid victory. Our Zouave Regt fought splendid and lost a hundred and ten men. my fire is getting low when I get another chance I will give you the particulars in full but this will have to do for this time Tom Holtom was taken prisoner but escaped again We are all in good spirits Gen Davis complimented us very highly for our [cross-out in document – illegible in original] gallant conduct we like him better since he has been in command of the Corps Give my love to Father and believe me your affect son W Bostock
