Co. K, 10th Mich Vet Voll Infty Atlanta, Ga Sept. 21st, 1864 Dear Mother Having a few leasure moments I thought I would improve them by writing to you I have not received a letter from you in some time the mail comes in every day We are laying in camp doing nothing except a little picket duty our Regt has to go on once in fifteen days which is very light duty I should think. We have not drawed any pay yet but expect to in a short time a part of our Corps has been payed we are getting full rations but no salt meat it is all fresh beef. Gen Sherman is sending all the women and children out of the city he says the city is to be used only for Army purposes it makes the rebels awful mad, but it is not to be suposed that we are going to support them and have to haul rations, it is enough for one railroad to do to get rations here fore the army but the rebels expected us to keep them here and feed them while they had a large force in our rear trying their best to cut our communications. they are sent out to a little stations called Rough and Ready where there is a flag of truce the truce is to be brought in tomorrow morning at day light. It has been raining very hard so I was oblijed to stop writing but it has stopped now so I will resume. There was an exchange of prisoners made last Monday. I do not know how many but think there was five or six hundred there was none that belonged to our Regt. One of the men of our Co. that was wounded on the first will not live he had his arm amputated up close to the shoulder and it has mortified and he will not live the rest of the boys are getting along first rate. There is some talk of our division being left here to garison the city but I do not know whether we will or not. Col Lum is still in comand of the Brigade I guess he will get a star before long I hope he will for I think he deserves it. We have dress parade every night the weather permiting. Well I guess I will close these few lines so good bye give my love to Father and beleive me your affectionate son William Bostock W.B. Mrs. M. Bostock Marshall Cal Co. Mich
