Co K 10th Mich Vet Vol Infty Atlanta Ga Sept 28th 1864 Dear Mother I received your letter dated Sept 19th night before last and was very glad to hear from you I delayed answering it until now on account of having so much writing to do as I have been detailed as company clerk I am making out the pay rolls now we are going to get six month's pay and a hundred dollars bounty I think I shall send a hundred and fifty dollars home. We have now twenty nine men in the company here 7 having come up from the Hospital since we have been here. Co I. of our Regt got nine recruits the other day they enlisted for one year and got five hundred dollars bounty We are all confident that this war will not last long we have had the news of Sheriden's brilliant victory in the Shenandoah vally against Early. There is also a report in camp that Richmond was takin and Gen Grant was killed but I guess it was only a camp rumor if it is so it will not be much of a victory after all we might better let Richmond go than lose Grant. Our mail has been very irregular for the past week we have only had one mail during the week I do not know what is the reason unless it is because Wheeler is harrassing our comun- ications. Our wounded are geting along fine a good many of them walk up to camp a distance of three miles one of them that has his leg off above the knee by the name of Chris Howald is so he can get around on crutches I think I sent you his photograph It is the one with a corporal stripe down his pants and a veteran stripe on his arm I want you to preserve those photographs for I want them when I get home. I cant get a furlough now on account of there being so many ahead of me the non veterans are to get them first there is five per cent of the army to be furloughed at a time two of our Co sent in aplications one came back this morning approved and the other not he is to have twenty days from Nashville it will take him five days to get home from there and five to get back so he will only have ten days at home he is not going to start until we get pay which will not be long I hope. I was not much surprised at hearing of Dr. Sibles's death I thought he was on about his last taps when I was at home he looked very bad I suppose he did not leave much to his family ast old [Rumci?] had a pretty good hold on him. nor was I much surprised at hearing of Charly Erginsingers deth it is a wonder he did not die years ago. I have not time to write any more as I have to go to work at the rolls again give my love to Father and believe me your affectonate son William Bostock Co K 10th Mich VVI WB.
