New Years day passed off about the same as Christmas with the exceptions of a drunken row about 12th oc1ock at night amongst the officers and a little more rations If you like you can send me some paper and envellopes perhaps it would be best to send about a quarter of a ream and then I can sell what I dont want and es make enough on it to pay the expen of sending it you need not send more than one bunch of envelopes get the best quality of paper as there is nothing I dislike more than poor writing paper good paper is selling in the city at one dollar a quire and envelopes at seventy five cents a bunch I sent you a paper this morning there is not much news in them but I thought they would be interesting to you. We have orders to go on picket tomorrow morning there is only one Regiment out of the Division goes on a day so that it is not very heavy duty. we have to go on once in fifteen days. I was down in the city to-day the citizens are opening their stores and things are looking quite lively down there boats run up here every day there is no very heavy large ones come up yet nothing but small steamboats and a few schooners. I wish you would write oftener I make a practice of writing once a week and sometimes two and three times. Well I guess I shall have to close this as it is comencing to rain and my candle is getting dim so good bye give my love to Father and beleive me your affect Son William Bostock Co. K 10th Mich. W.B.
