Camp of Co. K, 10th Mich. V.V.I. Savannah, Ga January 11th, 1865 Dear Mother I received you letter dated December 29th and was very glad to hear from you I am very much surprised that you have not heard from me yet as the first letter I wrote since we have been here was dated Dec. 3rd so there was a plenty of time for a letter to get through I sent you fifty dollars in one letter I am in hopes that that has got through safe. Our Division is going to be left here in the city to do garrison duty. we expect to move in in a day or two There is several of our men that was wounded at Jonesborough got back to the Regiment. We do not get much news here as the mail boat only comes up about once a week I would send you the paper but there is nothing in them and they cost ten cents apiece I have sent you several but I do not know whether you have ever received them or not. I have received one letter from Georgy since we have been here he was well at that time. The most of the regiment is going down town to work tomorrow. I expect to clear off a place to camp. There is nothing new here in camp only we have drill four hours a day and dress parade at night we drawed one days rations of soft bread to day for the first time We are going to draw clothing tomorrow Gen. Geary comander of the Post has regulated the prices in the city so that we can get things quite reasonable we can get things for half the money that we could when we came here Well Mother it is getting about bed time and I am at a loss to find any thing to write about so good night Excuse this short letter and I will try and do better next time.
