Camp Co. K, 10th Mich 
	        Sisters Ferry Feb 2nd/ 65 

	Dear Mother 
       		         Having a few leasure 
moments I thought I would improve 
them by writing to you we are still 
in camp at this place and are not 
likely to move in several days as 
there is a large swamp on the other 
side of the river that we have got 
to go through and the rebels have felled 
trees in the road and placed torpedoes 
about a rod apart for about four miles 
so that it will take several days yet 
to clear them out there was two men 
wounded by the explosions of one the 
other day one had his leg blown off 
up as far as the knee and the other 
was stunned so that he was not expected 
to live it was supposed that his brain 
was hurt, the most of the torpedoes was 

taken out without being exploded.
 There was several of our Regt taken 
prisoners yesterday they went out 
foraging with the company mules 
and got out a little to far and the 
rebels came on to them and captured 
all but two one of them had a pretty 
good mule and outrun them and the 
other had his mule shot and he took 
to the woods and managed to give them 
the slip there was one of our company 
taken. We are going to have general 
inspections and review at one oclock 
to day. Sergt Bryan has recived 
a letter from Mrs Holton saying 
that she had heard the news of Toms

death. I do not think that she ever thoug^
much of Tom as she was most 
anxious to know whether he voted 
for McClelan or Lincoln if she had been 
what she should have been to him she 
would not have payed any attention 
to his political matters. I do not 


think that Tom voted at all as he 
would not vote for Lincoln and he 
could not vote for McClelan and do 
his duty to his country, but it was 
none of my buisness and you need 
not say anything about it. Sergt. Bryan 
wishes me to tell you to tell Mrs. H 
that he has sold all of Toms things 
and sent her the money for them 
some time ago. There is a heavy 
mail just come in and I will wait 
and see if I get a letter before I finish 
this I have just secured a letter 
stating that you had sent the paper 
and envelopes but I have not got 
them yet I received the Marshall 
paper I shall have to close this
