Memorandum Continued March 14th, 1865 Reveille at six layed in camp all day wrote a letter home the weather fine got a plenty of forage. March 15th, 1865. Reveille at four six marched at nine weather wet rained most all day marched four miles and ran on to the 20 Corps train which came in on another road and went into camp for dinner fell in again and marched six miles farther and went into camp for the night the foragers did not get in. March, 16th 1865. Reveille at six marched at ten guarded the Division train about four miles and received orders to move on ahead of the train as the Rebels had made a stand we moved on about three miles and passed over a line of rocks that our men had charged the Rebels out of there was several dead Rebs laying there. halted about half an hour and received orders to move off to the left and form a line of battle advanced about half a mile and ran onto the Rebs Our Regt was in the second line the 14th Mich was in advance of us we moved up within fifteen rods of the Rebel works and layed down layed there from about three oclock until after dark and then fell back about half a mile and went in to camp the Color bearor and two men was slightly wounded out of our Regt the 14th Mich and 17th NY lost very heavy the weather was very wet Companys E & H went on to the skirmish the foragers came in with some meat and meal. March 17th 1865 Reveille beat at six Co K went on picket at eight the Rebs retreated during the night and our pickets moved into there works at daylight we stayed on picket two hours and received orders to move in to camp as the Division had orders to move marched at eleven passed the first Division of the 20th Corps halted one hour for dinner fell in again and marched eight miles and went into camp for the night the weather fine roads bad. March 18th 1865. Reveille at four marched at six Our Regt was in the advance of the Division we marched eight miles and heard heavy cannonading in advance of us which proved to be the Rebels firing on our foragers. Our Regt was deployed as skirmishers and advanced and drove the Rebs out of their Barricades Co A lost one man killed we advanced one mile farther and went into camp for the night Co K.G.O. [illegible in original] on picket the weather fine got plenty of forage. March 19th 1865. Reveille at six the first Division as we fell in their rear and marched four miles and found the Rebs in our front in large force Our Division formed their lines on the right of the first and engaged the enemy the Rebs charged us several times but were repulsed every time they broke the lines of the first Division and drove them back a little way but our men ralied and regained the ground. they managed to get around our left flank in to our rear so we had to jump over onto the other side of our works. Our Boys gave them one volley and then charged them and drove them out Our Regt capturing about a hundred and fifty prisoners. Co E. had their Oderly Sergt wounded. Co B had one Sergt wounded since died the 14 Mich lost heavy. March 20th 1865 Reveille at six the Rebs fell back about a mile during the night and reformed their lines leaving their dead and badly wounded in our hands at about ten oclock the 14 Mich and 16th Ills advanced passed over the Rebel works and went on and charged their next line of works and were repulsed with heavy loss. four Co's of our Regt were then deployed on the skirmish line and advanced to within 20 rods of the Rebel works and layed there all night drawed two days rations of Hard Bread the weather very fine
