Davison February 19th 1865 Mr. Allen Campbell So Son although I do not Exactly know where to find you I venture to write to you once more although I have got no particular news to Send you, we are well (that is all that are left of us) for you have most likely heard before this that George had inlisted in a Regiment that was raised here for State Service called the 30 Michigan Infantry they are as yet quartered at Detroit he inlisted the day be -fore Christmas he has been a little Sick but he has got over it he complains that they do not get enough to eat and that have to Spend all their pay to buy more. I though that the Soldiers rations were amply Sufficient if they could only get them. You must know what they are I wish that you would Send me a list of them in your first letter, for there must be an error Somewhere if they do not get enough The draft was to have taken place here on the 15, that is, on wednesday last but I have nothing of the re Sult as yet, the town of Grove land has got to furnish [19?] men our John you know is feable and if he is drafted he will have to go, I have not Seen him for about 3 weeks James does not at all act right sometimes he does not do any thing for days to gether, and he turns quite disrespectful to me worse than if I was a beggar or an old nigger So I do not know but I will have to hire the place out and go to work at Something else untill I See if you two or either of you Shold ever return. and if it Should So hapen, you need not be much Surprised if you Should See me down there amongst you in may, or may be Sooner; thank Heaven to I am yet able ^ earn my bread all- -most any where. although I must return you both my most Sincere thanks for the very liberal Supply of money that you from time to time Sent me when I was So much in want of it this Spring will finish up paying for the farm the last payment will be $277.50 due the 15 of April but I do not think that he will come for it untill about the begining of June If you could handily come across it I wish that you would send me a little tabaco Seed and prhaps you could Send the directions for curing it as they do it in the South But I must be bringing my letter to a close, I have been allmost laid up for a week back with a lame back but I. am getting better it likely that ever you knew my age I was born on the 12 of november 1792 in the parish of Kineardine in Scot- land and of course am 72 last November. mark this own Dr Son I must close beSeeching Heaven for your Safety and wellfare John Campbell [illegible letters] Allen Campbell 2nd Lieut.
