Campbell Letter : March 28, 1865

Alexander Campbell writes mainly to tell about Sherman's March to the Sea. He notes that they devastated North and South Carolina by burning, mangling railroads, destroying storage facilities, and liberating munitions, animals, and formerly enslaved peoples. Alexander also estimates that they captured about 8,000 prisoners of war on the way, including Colonel Rhett (likely referring to Confederate Congressman Robert Barnwell Rhett).
