Davison Mich. October. 15 1865 Dear Brother I take the present opportunity of writing you a few lines. Alex. & me. have been Home a little over a week. & we have been at work digging potatoes & doing other work. we are both well and getting along first rate. I have heard that you are Sick, but I hope that you are well again before this time. I should think that your Regiment would be discharged before long. the folks are all well here with the exception of Johns wife who is rather unwell but is getting better now. the weather is very fine here now. but I Expect we will have it cold Enough here before long. Eli Jennings & wife was here last night. they are well. if you are Sick you must not get discouraged for that is the worst thing you can do. but as Alex is going to write some I will close. I would like to have you write & tell us how you are getting along. From your Brother Allen Campbell. Dear Brother I will add a few lines to Allens letter to let you see that I still remember you although I have not heard from you in along time We hear by the way of Allen's wife that you are or have been very sick I hope that you have recovered before this time as being sick in the Army is a very hard business as I have cause to know full well. You must not get discouraged even if you are "hard up," but keep up good spirits and look for brighter days. Allen and myself have been home a little more than a week. of course we are glad to be at home once more. We are doing considerable work as our folks are somewhat behind with their work on account of sickness We have got the Potatoes nearly all dug but have not husked any corn yet. There is not much to husk only the [illegible] north of the Orchard. They have not sown any wheat this fall which I think is a piece of carelessness hardly in excusable. I think they might have sown fifteen or twenty acres just as well as not. I think pretty strongly of going back to Tennessee before winter sets in. I like the country much better than I do this and I think that I have got every thing arranged so that I can make a pretty good thing in a few years. I think that I shall try it at all events and see what the results will be. Our folks are all well at present except Johns wife. yet she is getting better very fast. When we came home John, Father, Delia, and the baby were all sick. Father is quite well now and I think that in a short time they will all be well. I brought two horses home with me from the south. One of them is a large horse good for work or anything else the other one is a small horse but a splendid riding horse. and traveler I dont know what I shall do with them this winter Now James write as soon as you get this as we will be anxious to hear from you Remember me to Allen Ever Yours Alex Campbell
