Peoria Nov. 4th 1860 Dear Father I take thee pleasure of writing you a few lines to let you know how I am geting along & what i am doing I am Sorry that I have Delayed it So long. but i Did want to write till I could tell you weather I would stop here for winter or not. and I have made up my mind to stop here for some time yet [anyhow?] as I cannot verry well leave now as the man that I was working for Died Shortley after I Received your Letter and his property will not more than half pay his Debts it is now in the hands of an Adminstrator he told me last week that I would not get more than fifty five cents on the Dollar for about ten months work wich amounts to about a hundred and forty Dollars and that I must wait two years for if they do not chose to pay it Sooner. I Saw Mr [illegible] last week he has comenced business again & Says he will try to pay me as Soon as posible I have had verry bad luck in geting my wages Since i have been here but I will take good [that?] I get my every monthe fore the future I supose you will be Soon makeing preprations to take your [farm?] I wish I could be thare with you but I must get Some of tese old Old things seteled up and I do not want to go back opened handed but I have said Enough about my own affairs. so I will mention that times is prety good here now & last Sumers crop wers good we have had fine weath this fall So far. and good prospects for good times this winter. i have no more to write at present so I will close with sending my best Respects to all the folks in [Groveland?]. My health has been good and I hop this will find you wel and that you will post one note for the old Rail Candidate No more at present your Son write as soon as John.
