Allen reaffirms his commitment to the Union cause and vows to serve his three year term to its conclusion. Alexander, who was recently promoted to the rank of corporal, discusses his abhorrence of slavery and his distaste for "inferior" white southerners. He proceeds to denounce the draft riots in Detroit as well as Copperhead politicians.
