I. 30 Mich Jan 30th /65 Dear father your letter come to Hand last night and I was glad to Hear that you was all well. and that you got my bounty without any trouble I thought that he was honest the wheather has been very cold but to day it is quite warm now I will tell you Something about How we get along we Have good bunks Straw ticks to of us bunks togather. Charles gunn and me bunks togather each of us drawed a blanket apeace and a ruber blanket we put the rubber [illegible letter] under us. on the ticks and the others over us so we keep warm enough we drill twice a day with our arms (that is) them that dont go on guard it takes 6 [illegible] for camp guard and evry other day 30 goes down in the city patrolling and guarding the Docks a man Has to be carfull in this city. our food is not very I good nor not enough of it that is the worst.. thare is about 20 sick in this company we Have good officers they come in and talk with the men evry day the boys bought a sword and give it to the captain it cast about 75 [illegible] it is a nice thing we Have a gard House to guard one of the men tried to saw the bars of the windows with a [illegible] knife made into a saw the guard heard Him so they catched Him they put Him in cloce confinement for 3 month one of the boys let one of the subitutes escape he was cort marsheld and sentenced to 3 month Hard labor with a Chain and ball to his foot and His pay stoped the orders is prety strict about my coat i did not send it Home it was not worth it i did not send evrything by Miller if you want that money use it I am well no more at present write soon from your son George Campbell Co.
