I have expressed it & a coat Camp Jewett Louisville Ky. Nov 8 1862 Dear Father. I just this minute received your letter of the 26th October it is my opinion that it was a little behind hand. in regard to that note for thirty dollars don't pay one cent of it the note read in this way. Camp Rose South Bend Inda whatever date it was I now forget. it was the day before. we left there. anyhow one day after date I promise to pay to the order of Major [H J?] Blowloney thirty dollars Jas L Cathcart Lt & [Jr?] [illegible] 99 Regt Inda Vols that is the way the note read I am very certain so far as the information that I recieved. it was but little it led me to think that I could take a cot with me so I bought one. and a mattress and give my note for $11. dollars to a man by the name of Deardoff. for it, so you can see what good his informa- -tion done me. I find that I cannot take them that is the cot I think maybe that I can take the mattress if not I will send it home the cot is not worth sending home so the Dr and I agree they are broke to pieces so. them two notes are all that ever my name was put on don't pay either the latter I will pay when I get you payed what I owe you. the other debt it will be some time before I will pay a long time indeed without he can make me pay it. We have had marching orders since day before yesterday morning and are not off yet it now being 12 A.m. noon. and no prospect of getting off to day not before to morrow morning. transportation has not been furnished yet boats are to come from Cincinatti yet or were the last we heard about two hours ago we have three days rations cooked now. I have to turn over six of my teams then I will have but six left I have to turn over my old tents and get new that part of the order I like the rest I don't like I will send my mattress home by express to day in alittle while. I will take it down in a little while and express it if I can get time it. is after three oclock now and no further orders yet I dont know when we will go it is hard to say. if we have any further orders. I will leave the letter unsealed for a while write soon your Obedient son Jas L Cathcart Chas W Cathcart Westville Laporte Co Indiana
