Corinth July 19th 1862 I Rec,d a letter from you this morning dated from 4th to 8th of July. Calvin Morley Brought it he started from Viroqua a week ago last Thursday he looks well and Hearty again though he looked more like adead man when he left here than a being of life he Brought us the news of the Death of Elijah Forsythe he died at Keokuk Iowa on the 21st of June Morley Said that he Saw Burnett the [crossed out] [y] day before he left Viroqua you wrote that you herd that there was folks around Springville that was Ready to tar and feather him Burnett when he got home; I would like to have the power to Draft a lot of wide mouthed patriots that I could pick out in the Vicinity of Springville and Viroqua you generally See those that are the loudest in denouncing others as cowards are the Stick the closest to home themselves those patriotic folks Still have a fine chance yet to display their Valor as Wisconsin is called on to furnish Several was Thousand more men; Burnett ^ Sick all the time he was here and I do not Believe he Ever would have got well as long as he would have Remained here; Burnett would not have went home if he thought he would got well here he Really Disliked to go as it was; you wanted to know if I meant for you to live at Burnetts again e that is the calculation I had if you prefer^d Staying thare I would Rather you would Stay than there ^ any place Else up there; Burnett Says you can Stay there as long as you wish Tell Mrs Burnett that I Appriciate her well wishes But I hope I may not while in the Army need any personal assistance from friends at home; though it is a cheering consolation for one to know that he has friends in time of need there was a letter come here to day for Burnett it was from John. B. Merrill one of the Released prisoners of our Co him and 8 others of the Tigers are [crossed out] [there] in Benton Barricks at St Louis [H.?] Cleary is with them, I will Send the letter in this and you can hand it to Burnett it Speaks for its Self and So I will not write any of the Details News come into camp yesterday that one company of the 17th Wis woho was Detailed to work out on the Rail Road toward Memphis had been captured and taken prisoners by the Sesh the Report was that the Rebels had torn up a portion of the Track and awaited the approach of the Train carrying the Co above mentioned and [crossed out] [illegible] the [crossed out] [illegible] Cars Run off the Track Killing Six and the Remainder fell in the hands of the Rebels; Such is the yarn But I dont Believe it until I am better Satisfied of the fact I Riceived the Money that I loaned in Milwaukee to Mr Cox he paid me when we was paid off here; I do not wish you to work hard give yourself proper Exercise to Keep up a healthy circulation of the Blood But do not fatigue yourself unnessarly Ben Greenman got a letter from his wife to day Ben is well; Alvin Caulkins has not had a letter from home for three weeks he thinks the old folks are getting too careless about writing to him I would been glad [crossed out] [illegible] if I could have Seen David Ingersoll & Green Sallee for they are good Boys; how did David like the country; not very well I guess you Say you want long letters from me I would like long letters from you and I will write all I think necessary my paper is out and I must close So Good Bye T.J.
