Head Quarters 18th Reg,t Corinth Mississippi Sept 28th 1862 Dear Wife I Sit down to write you a few lines in Answer to your letter which I Rec,d this Morning bearing date of Sept 21st & 22nd and was verry glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well; I am as well as usual [crossed out] [though] The weather is getting considerable cooler and we are begining to get out fall Rains; it is Raining to day though not verry hard; I like to See a reasonable portion come but when there comes a little too mutch it makes the muddiest Roads here that I ever Saw in my life; We are Still at corinth doing picket duty Since we come back from Inka I was on picket every other day for over a week; It is thought that the Rebels are fishing around to to try and lick us away from Corinth though I do not think they will undertake it unless they have a verry heavey force Ed Crandell and Ike Odell come back to the Reg,t yesterday Ed look quite well but Ike looks quite delicate yet but is considered out of danger; Ben Greenman has had the Rheumatism for Several days though he is able to hobble around and he is now Sitting and talking to the Boys about Runing the Old Threshing Machine many of the boys are getting tired of war and would Rather Run a threshing at home than to help thresh Rebels for uncle Sam; But there is one consolation for there is many Rebels tired of Threshing for Jeff Davis and if they could conveniently do so many of them would abandon the Machine [crossed out] [illegible] and quit the Business One of our company is getting his dis- charge made out to day his name is Stokes from Kickapoo he was fifer; we had general Inspection this morning we have Inspection of arms the last Sunday in Every month to See that we have our guns and all our accoutrements All in good order and that nothing is lost; We have not had our pay yet But our pay rolls was Sent in a few days ago So I guess we will get our pay the fore part of Next Month; I am glad that you got [crossed out] [your] another payment from the State; they Should be more punctual in paying Soldiers wives than they have been for Some of them I supose need it verry mutch I am glad that you have agood place to live and I am glad [crossed out] [illegible] that you are So prudent in Saving your money but I do not wish you to deny yourself of anything nesessary for your comfort for the purpose of Saving money; but I know that many of the Soldiers wives Spend more than money ^ is Realley Nesessary I Supose that the Boy you Spoke of, will of months be around in the course of a couple ^ from now on [crossed out] [illegible] Somewhere there abouts; you must try and take care of yourself the best you can. I would like to be with you this winter; but under the circumstances I dont Expect to do So But I hope you will get along well without me until I Shall get back home again I am not homeSick but [crossed out] [illegible] a person does not know the comforts of home and friends until they are kept awhile from them [crossed out] [illegible] I have not mutch news to write this time I have not Rec,d But one letter Since I wrote to you before that was from Brother Isaac he is Still at Leavenworth ward master in the 7th ward in the General Hospital he wrote that he was well I Begin to look for a letter from Susan and Sarah; I wrote to Susan and Hariet before I went to Inka though if Hariet has gone to wis, She may have Started before the letter got there if She comes tell her I wrote to her and Susan together my paper is about out and I must quit for the present So Good Bye For This Time T.J.Davis Lucinda.M.Davis
